Course comparison

Online or in-person training?

Compare how each format fits your time, preparation and need for scheduled practical support.

Compare the work, not just the timetable

An online course asks you to organise lesson time and practical assignments yourself. An in-person option adds scheduled time at a venue, but may still include online preparation and independent practice. Ask what happens before, during and after attendance.

Make a realistic comparison sheet

  • List the practical tasks expected in each format.
  • Record the equipment included in the option you would buy.
  • Include travel and time away from work in your comparison.
  • Ask how feedback is provided between scheduled sessions.

Choose for your circumstances

If you can maintain a regular practice routine and document your work clearly, online study may fit your schedule. If you want scheduled face-to-face guidance, check current in-person availability in the appropriate region. Availability differs by course and country.

Do not interpret the number of attendance days as the total time needed to develop skill. Give yourself room for repetition, questions and feedback.
